Pest control in hops: beneficial insects
Posted by Rebecca Kneen on
Depending on the season, we have two main hops pests in BC: aphids and spider mites. Both thrive on stressed-out plants, exacerbated by excessive heat. Organic growers work systemically to improve the health of our entire ecosystem, as well as using topical treatments. This means feeding the soil, feeding the plants, and feeding natural beneficial insects to do our work for us. Topical treatments are used only as a stop-gap while we are rebalancing the systems or in overwhelming circumstances. As organic growers, our first resort is always to improve the health of our soil, thereby improving the health of...
Hops Rhizomes available for pre-orders!
Posted by Rebecca Kneen on
The Store is Open! Hops are dug in late March/early April (depending on when the snow disappears and the ground thaws), with shipping generally late April through mid-May. Last year's hops harvest was excellent, as we have spent a lot of energy rebuilding soil fertility and improving irrigation for our babies. The excellent plant growth indicates that they should have an abundance of rhizomes for us - or so we hope! At the moment, everything in the hopyard is dormant, as they sleep under a blanket of snow. As always, we represent only certified organic hops grown either on our...

For 2020, we have a variety of special events, beers and casks coming your way, and we will of course also be at our favourite beer festivals. Sedition Series Seasonals Look for new seasonal ales monthly, released in both keg and growler and available at all our usual outlets. This is the Sedition...

Maniacal Jack is back! (and market news)
Posted by Rebecca Kneen on
Maniacal Jack is Back! Yes, the pumpkin-headed beer-drinking punk is back for October, and he's in growlers. Come get the Maniacal Jack squash ale in pipsqueaks and growlers starting Wednesday at the All Organic Farmers' Market in Salmon Arm, at the brewery, or at the Sorrento Village Farmers Market on Saturday. We'll also be bringing Jack to the Enderby Open Air Farmers Market on Friday. Goes great with both turkey and pumpkin pie! And for those who like tasting notes: Jack is a light orange ale with notes of sweet rich squash, grainy toast and caramel, topped with delicate aromas...
