On July 1, Crannóg Ales will be exploring more of Canada’s story through readings and discussions with Indigenous activists.A variety of activists will read from Arthur Manuel’s book “Unsettling Canada”, there will be a copy of the Indian Act available for people to read, and copies of the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Cease Wyss from the Squamish and Sto:Lo peoples will discuss the importance of indigenous food systems and how they relate to ecosystems and water. July 1 may be Canada's birthday as a nation (although some of our Newfoundland relatives might not agree with the timeline), but there's a lot else to think about on this day. Finally, spring has appeared! The frogs are singing, the redwing blackbirds have arrived, and we have lambs on the farm. It's taken a while - especially compared to last spring, which was practically midsummer by now. Constant rain has kept our fields cold and unworkable for a long time, but we are finally able to get into our yards and start digging rhizomes. We will be done digging in the next few days, and will start cutting, grading and packaging after that. We hope to be shipping within two weeks. Farm breweries and the ALR

Farm breweries and the ALR

Recent changes to the act governing the ALR have caused some issues with on-farm breweries - including us. We have been brewing on farmland for 17 years, with the initial approval of the ALC.

We feel strongly that since the new regulations were clearly not developed in consultation with either farmers or existing farm breweries, they should be amended to both support on-farm breweries and farmers.
